The day-to-day existence of the Altai tribes in the Scythian era was shaped by their practice of moving from place to place with the changes of the seasons. The display contains bags, flasks and vessels made from wood, horn and clay. Some of these utilitarian items were embellished with appliqués, evidence that decorative and applied art was an inseparable part of these people’s daily lives. The display includes the top-piece of a headdress, various kinds of plaques and horse harness decorated with depictions of birds, wolves, deer, elks, mountain goats and rams, as well as fantastic creatures – gryphons, winged and horned tigers, all executed in the Scytho-Siberian “Animal style”. These are demonstrations of the splendid artistic taste and skills of their makers.
